The village of Bogorodskoye has been known since the 15th century. It is located 27 km from Moscow, near Sergiev Posad. A toy industry emerged in the village in the 18th and 19th centuries. White, unpainted wooden toys were produced in Bogorodskoye. They depicted people, animals, birds, and scenes from Russian folk tales. Some toys were painted, and others, the white ones, were sold near the walls of the Holy Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius and in Moscow. In 1960, the toy-carving workshop was transformed into the Artistic Carving Factory. Today, the factory produces not only figurines, toys, and souvenirs, but also accessories such as hairpins. The skill of the woodcarvers from Bogorodskoye is recognized worldwide; they have won gold medals at exhibitions in Brussels, Paris, and New York. A product from the Bogorodskoye factory is a sign of quality, proven over centuries.
